A baby born Friday at the newly renovated University of Washington campus has been named Charlotte, after her mother, who is a former student there.
The university announced Charlotte’s name in a post on its Facebook page.
The baby was born at 1:19 p.m. to a woman and a man at the UW-Olympia campus, which was completed last week.
The newborn was named after UW-Seattle graduate student Lauren Fagan and her husband, former student Mike Fagan, who both attended the UW as undergraduate students.
The couple, who had been married for a year, are expecting their second child, the university said.
A few hours later, the couple tweeted that the newborn was a healthy, healthy baby.
The UW is the latest institution to make headlines after a baby was named for the late singer-songwriter and civil rights leader Janis Joplin.
The name was announced last week by the College of William and Mary, which also is named after the former president.
